Kick Start March with White Water Thrills and Spills

Fun Rafting at Lee Valley White Water CentreKick start spring with a white water adventure, taking a thrilling white knuckle ride down the rapids at Lee Valley White Water Centre this March, as it opens its doors for the new season.


Adventure seekers and keen watersports enthusiasts can start 2017 with an adrenalin fuelled experience just outside London at Lee Valley White Water Centre and tick the experience off their bucket list!


With the venue offering rides down the rapids at just £38 throughout March for their 'March Mayhem' bonanza, it's a chance for water lovers and keen sports people to be the first this season to sample the centre's thrilling 300m long Olympic course, where Team GB won gold and silver in the London 2012 canoe slalom event.


As Lee Valley White Water Centre opens its doors on Friday 3 March for another exciting spring and summer season, rafters can join the ranks of the 100,000 people who have already braved the rapids at the prestigious venue in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire.


'March Mayhem' gives water lovers a chance to have a go at this adrenalin fuelled experience for just £38 each, reduced from the standard price of £50, for the first month of the season.


White Water Rafting at Lee Valley White Water CentreThere is also a special deal to charter a raft for up to nine people at just £342 between them (usually £450), providing the ultimate thrill of speeding down the Olympic course. The price reductions apply every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday in March.


Rafters need no previous experience to enjoy white water rafting and all equipment is provided, including wetsuits, boots, helmets and buoyancy aids. Those taking part are accompanied by a raft guide who takes them through a safety briefing on the lake before tackling the rapids.


Paskell Blackwell, Lee Valley White Water Centre's General Manager said: "Our white water adventures and always popular here at Lee Valley and we thought we'd start off 2017 with some special deals to let people give white water rafting a try. We have a season of fun activities planned and our March Mayhem experience is just a start to an exciting spring and summer of water filled fun for young people and adults alike!"


"Anyone who wants to enjoy the thrills and spills of white water rafting can come and have a go at descending the Olympic run at an early bird bargain price and while this rafting adventure is very popular with adrenalin fans and sports enthusiasts, it is also open to anyone of any age from 14 and upwards, who wants a fun sporting challenge."


There are a host of other fun activities planned at the centre, including Family Rafting, available to children aged 10 and over, starting in early April, and 'tubing', planned for summer weekends - an exhilarating ride down the rapids in a ring-shaped dinghy!


Other exciting white water activities coming up at the venue include Hydrospeeding, which is similar to bodyboarding but on fast flowing white water and Hot Dog sessions, two person inflatables providing a heart pumping introduction to kayaking on the rapids. Plus, additionally, from Easter, there will be Go Sup - stand up paddle boarding on the lake, which children as young as eight can try.


Families can also test the 140 tonnes of golden sands with their bucket and spade at the venue's new beach. The beach area, at the Pavilion in the Park at the centre, is open for visitors to have free fun.


As part of an action packed day, visitors can also enjoy relaxing with a drink or snack in The Terrace Bar & Café, with views over the white water rapids.

And on Fridays each week from 3 March, the popular Friday Night Live is back to help to toast the weekend with an evening of free live music and great food in the venue's lively bar, from 19:00.


The venue is the ideal spot for a celebration, whether to mark a special event or occasion such as birthdays, or stag and hen dos and parties. The centre is also available for corporate or team building events.


Managed by Vibrant Partnerships on behalf of its owner Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, the centre has attracted more than 600,000 visitors since its opening in April 2011.
