With so many family attractions that span from adventure centres to farms and zoos, keeping the kids happy is pretty easy in Essex. What's more difficult however is choosing just where to go between the many, many options before you. To give you a helping hand here we've listed some of the favourite family attractions in Essex.
Adventure Island - Southend on Sea
Adventure Island in Southend on Sea proudly touts itself as the number one FREE attraction in the UK. However whilst admissions are free you do have to pay to go on their many rides, with most of the rides paid for via a simple wrist band system with discounts for those purchasing an annual pass. Amongst the many rides are roller coasters, dodgems, a big wheel and plenty of arcade games.
Clacton Pier - Clacton on Sea
Clacton Pier is completely FREE to enter, although again the rides require payment. There's plenty of stuff to do as a family here, such as ten pin bowling, visiting the Seaquarium and going on a boat excursion. What's more if, after all of those exciting activities, you're super hungry there's a fish and chip shop, an Ocean diner, a bar and grill and plenty of sweet shops.
Colchester Zoo - Colchester
Colchester Zoo is world famous, and with good reason. Amongst the animals here are Aardvarks, Leopards, Giraffes, Elephant's and Cheetahs; and that's merely touching upon the 270 different species that call Colchester Zoo their home.
Marsh Farm Animal Adventure Park - South Woodham Ferrers
Marsh Farm is set within 30 acres of farm land, which is then nestled within 300 acres of beautiful rolling countryside. Here you can meet an array of animals, cuddle the farm pets and even partake in a little pony grooming!
Old MacDonald's Farm - Brentwood
Old MacDonald's Farm is a great choice for the family come rain or shine. Within this soft play centre features everything from ball ponds to play cannons. They also have an animal petting farm which has won awards.
Promenade Park - Maldon
Promenade Park has undergone a complete transformation in recent years and is today home to plenty of children's play areas, such as the Splash Park (perfect for hot summer days) and the Galleon, as well as plenty of refreshment kiosks.
There's also a dedicated wildlife area and crabbing lake for those who want to enjoy nature and wildlife as a family.
Royal Gunpowder Mills - Waltham Abbey
The Royal Gunpowder Mills is a family day out with a difference, where you can explore the history of gunpowder, explosives and rocket propellants through a range of captivating Exhibitions, Science Shows and Children's Activities.
Tropical Wings Zoo - South Woodham Ferrers
Tropical Wings Zoo is no ordinary zoo experience. Here, among the many things to do, you can visit one of the most beautiful tropical houses found in the UK, wander around the oasis and interact with birds and butterflies.
