Colchester Chamber Choir performed its inaugural concert in January 2010 and comprises around thirty-two auditioned, mixed voices.

They have sung in cathedrals, castles, gardens and country churches all over East Anglia. From the outset, their aim has been to search out less well known music and to perform it in the original language with imaginative programming and presentation.

The members come from a range of backgrounds and musical experience but hold in common their love of singing, and working hard together through detailed rehearsals to produce exciting and stimulating concerts.

They are particularly proud that several of their Choral Apprentices have gone on to receive choral scholarships at universities and cathedrals, benefiting from the unique experience of singing in the choir.

Music Director

Michael Roderick Earle was a boy chorister at Winchester Cathedral and following a choral scholarship at St. John’s College, Cambridge, and a Foundation Scholarship at the Royal College of Music, entered the singing profession as a soloist. He sang with the Monteverdi Choir and BBC singers.

He was a principal baritone with the Royal Opera House for 21 years, singing more than 60 roles with many of the greatest singers, conductors and directors of the era. He has sung in opera and concerts all over the world, in the USA, Argentina, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East, as well as throughout Europe and the UK. He has made several recordings and videos from early to contemporary music.

Roderick is a singing professor at The Royal College of Music and teaches the choral scholars at Trinity College, Cambridge.

Choral Apprentice Scheme

If you are aged 16 to 25 you could be eligible for Colchester Chamber Choir's Choral Apprenticeship Scheme. Their apprentices have achieved choral scholarships, music festival positions, and places at prestigious universities, and proudly attest that they owe their success to the experience and confidence they have developed singing with the choir.
