Colchester Chamber Choir is a small, very friendly and supportive choir and we are always looking for new members. We offer a slightly different experience from most local choirs because our repertoire is usually performed with little or no accompaniment. Therefore, we have to work extra hard on ensemble, style, and interpretation.

Our musical director, Roderick Earle, has enjoyed an international career as a singer and every rehearsal is like a lesson with one of the top professionals in the country. We need singers with clear voices, good musicianship, and a fine sense of tuning, who are passionate about our kind of music and are prepared to attend regular rehearsals in Colchester. You will need to be auditioned but we try to make this as painless as possible. If you would like to find out more please contact Roderick at: This email address is being protected from spambots. Choral Apprentice Scheme

If you are aged 16 – 25 you could be eligible for our Choral Apprenticeship Scheme which offers financial support and one-to-one mentoring. Our apprentices have gone on to win music festivals, choral scholarships and places at prestigious universities, and proudly attest that they owe their success to the experience and confidence they have developed singing with the choir.

Musical director Roderick Earle was a boy chorister at Winchester Cathedral and after holding a choral scholarship at St. John’s College, Cambridge entered the singing profession as a soloist. He was a principal baritone with the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden for 21 years, singing with many of the greatest singers, conductors and directors of the era. He has sung in opera and concerts all over the world and made several recordings from early to contemporary music.

Roderick is also a singing professor at The Royal College of Music, London and teaches the choral scholars at Trinity College, Cambridge.
