It has been a long hot summer and the prospect of some musical delights from northern climes might be just the restorative you need!

Colchester Chamber Choir's autumn concert From Northern Lands features music from the cool lands of Scandinavia and northern Europe. Although hugely popular in the countries of its origin much of this music is scarcely known in the rest of Europe. Pronouncing the Nordic languages may explain this, but as ever they seek to rise to this challenge and offer you an opportunity to share this remarkable music with them. You will hear works by well-known composers like Grieg, Stenhammar and Sibelius together with Alfvén, Linberg, Peterson-Berger, Wikander and Lange-Muller - all composers they have presented before with considerable approval. They will also be including three partsongs by Brahms inspired by northern myths, including a setting of the semi-mythical Scottish bard Ossian. They will complete their programme with three beautiful English settings by Ernest Moeran from his Songs of Springtime.
